Think of the giant cedars on the west coast.

These trees are magnificent, grounded, and wise. They have a strong, peaceful presence. But what we see is only above the surface.

Roots can represent the unconscious, what lies below the surface of our awareness but significantly shapes how we experience the world.

Roots can also represent our past. Like our unconscious, our histories can feel messy and tangled. The roots of our unconscious and of our past are also entangled in our experiences and relationships. Opening to this part of us allows us to heal and integrate into wholeness.

The tangled roots of a tree are what connects it to Mother Earth and other trees. Attachment styles can be reflected in how connected we are to ourselves, each other, and the Earth.

When we slow down, be still, and become grounded like trees, we can begin to recover from the devastating seasons of our lives.

I acknowledge that I live and work on the traditional territory of the lÉ™k̓ʷəŋən Peoples, now known as the Songhees and XÊ·sepsÉ™m (Esquimalt) Nations. I gratefully acknowledge that I am an uninvited guest on these lands and recognize my responsibility to relate to it respectfully. I also offer gratitude for the Indigenous ways of knowing that provide enduring wisdom for healing, growth and our true nature.
